Hotel Description: Yes indeed....Year 2001 has marked our 60th birthday and to commemorate the grand occasion, the Lord Elgin Hotel has undertaken an impressive expansion program. Sixty additional guestrooms, three thousand more square feet of meeting space, an enlarged health facility and new indoor swimming pool are added features intended to satisfy the meetings and corporate market needs and a new restaurant continues to service the public as well as resident guests. Every measure has been taken to make the construction process as non disruptive as possible. Courtrous, friendly, personable and service-conscious staff members are on hand to assist guests over the course of their stay with us. In 1941, a cornerstone of Ottawa?s hospitality scene was established - The Lord Elgin Hotel. It was named after The Right Honourable James Bruce, The Earl of Elgin and Governor General of British North America from 1847 - 1854. Ottawa has grown up around the historical Lord Elgin Hotel, which has become a landmark of comfort and convenience in the centre of Ottawa?s Government, business, shopping and visitor attractions. The 12 storey structure, with its Normandy type copper roof and totally reconstructed in 1991, is a clean cut modern adaptation of the French Chateau type so well known to the Capital City. The trim and molded cournct regions of Ontario and Quebec giving a more elegant colour textures to the facade surface. Overlooking beautiful confederation Park and 1 block from the historic Rideau Canal which come alive in the summer with bikers, boaters, walkers and other outdoor enthusiasts and in the winter turns into the longest skating rink in the world.
